Under administrative supervision, the purpose of this job is to plan, coordinate, schedule and manage the overall operations and programs of the Parks and Recreation Department involving park development and administration and the maintenance of City parks, trails, medians, athletic fields, and other public grounds; and scheduling and monitoring recreation and senior center programs and services.The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. - Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Plans, organizes and directs a broad program of work activities related to recreation and senior center programs and services, park, median, athletic field, and public grounds operations, and the development of parks and open space.
- Determines present and future programs and facility needs, as well as goals and objectives for the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Develops, plans, prepares, and implements special events, ensuring that all event elements meet or surpass established quality control criteria.
- Administers budgets for parks and recreation facilities and programs; monitors budget expenditures.
- Directs the research, analysis, and preparation of special reports, studies, and surveys concerning revenues, expenditures, fee payments, and participation numbers.
- Works with contractors and staff to design, develop and implement programs and projects from start to completion. Ensures internal and external projects are completed and meet City standards.
- Performs public relations duties and serves as technical advisor to citizens, boards, commissions and other City departments and organizations.
- Identifies, responds to, and resolves complex issues and concerns from customers related to policies, procedures or safety issues.
- Investigates and responds to inquiries and complaints relating to citizens’ use of recreation and senior center programs, park/recreation/public sites, and facilities.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
- Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
- Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in related field supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with supervisory responsibilities or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.
Salary : $7,948 - $11,536
