The City of Danbury is hiring an Assistant Waterfront Director for the Summer 2025.
The Assistant Waterfront Director at Candlewood Town Park is responsible for supporting the Waterfront Director in ensuring the safety, organization, and effective operation of all waterfront activities. This role involves overseeing lifeguard staff, maintaining facilities, assisting with programming, and ensuring that visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience at the park’s waterfront.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety and Supervision:
•Assist in overseeing daily waterfront operations, including swimming, boating, and other
recreational activities.
•Monitor lifeguard performance, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
•Act as the primary responder during emergencies in the absence of the Waterfront Director.
Staff Management:
•Assist in training, scheduling, and supervising lifeguards and waterfront staff.
•Provide ongoing feedback, mentorship, and performance evaluations for staff.
•Ensure all staff certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard) are up to date.
Program Support:
•Collaborate with the Waterfront Director to implement recreational and educational programs.
•Assist in organizing events such as movie night and community activities.
•Engage with visitors to promote programs and ensure satisfaction.
Facility Maintenance:
•Conduct daily inspections of waterfront facilities, including docks, equipment, and safety supplies.
•Report and address maintenance issues to ensure a clean and safe environment.
•Ensure proper storage and care of waterfront equipment.
Administrative Duties:
•Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, CivicRec and equipment logs.
•Assist with staff schedules and payroll reporting.
•Communicate effectively with park management, staff, and the public.
Qualifications:
•Minimum age: 18 years.
•Certification in Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid (Waterfront-specific certification preferred).
•Previous experience in waterfront supervision, lifeguarding, or aquatic program management.
•Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
•Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to swim and perform water rescues.
•Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
•Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience working at a public beach, camp, or similar setting.
•Knowledge of Candlewood Lake and its recreational opportunities.
•Familiarity with local and state water safety regulations.Application Submission:
