What are the responsibilities and job description for the Davenport Parks and Recreation - Davenport Junior Theatre Summer Camp Specialist position at City of Davenport AmeriCorps?
*This is a temporary AmeriCorps position through the City of Davenport AmeriCorps Program*
Position Information:
Living Stipend: $3,700
Education Award: $1,565.08
Service Term Dates: May 12, 2025 - August 2, 2025
Position Specifics:
1) Interact with youth throughout summer term at weekly camps in a variety of ways to build professional skills and perspectives
· Attend pre-camp training sessions
o Participate in sessions to become familiar with camp rules, safety protocols, and expectations
o Gain an understanding of the camp schedule, camp goals, and procedures for addressing camper behavior, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive environment
· Enhance programming each week by helping support Camp Leads with groups of campers as they rotate through different camp activities (i.e., facilitation of activities, ensuring all campers are engaged, transitioning from one activity to the next)
· Request, collect, and maintain the supplies required for camp activities as needed
· Help with facilitating snack time and lunch time, on a rotational basis
2) Enrich DJT camp offerings for school-aged children by creating new and dynamic camp activities
· Develop activity proposals for implementation during DJT camp offerings
o Research on the internet group activities that help improve communication, collaboration, and team-building skills among school-aged campers
o Develop at least 2 activity proposals that include: age appropriateness, group size, space requirements, supply requirements
o Submit 1 completed activity proposal to site supervisor by each deadline: June 11 and July 9, 2025
o Implement completed activities during following weeks of camp, as scheduled by site supervisor
· Evaluate and suggest 2 additional activities or items that can be purchased by DJT staff
o Activities or items (i.e., puzzles, finger puppets, memory cards) will be for use before and after DJT camp offerings, while campers are waiting for camp to start/be picked up
o Submit 2 activities or items to site supervisor by June 18, 2025
o Implement activities or items during following weeks of camp, as scheduled by site supervisor
· Develop lunchtime activity as an alternative to playing kickball for implementation
o Research on the internet group activities and develop at least 1 activity proposal that includes: age appropriateness, group size, space requirements, supply requirements
o Submit 1 completed activity proposal to site supervisor by June 25, 2025
o Implement activity during following weeks of camp, as scheduled by site supervisor
· Develop theatre activities to offer during large group warm up at DJT camps
o Research on the internet theatre games and develop at least 2 activity proposals that include: age appropriateness, group size, space requirements, and supply needs
o Submit 1 activity proposal to site supervisor by each deadline: July 2 and July 16, 2025
o Implement activities during following weeks of camp, as scheduled by site supervisor
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
· Background in the field of theatre, arts education, recreation, human services, or related field
· Experience working with children and families preferred
Eligibility Criteria:
· Certify that they have or will obtain a diploma/GED before the service contract start date
· Be 18 years old at the start of service
· Pass a national service criminal history check prior to first day of service
· Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US national, or Lawful Permanent Resident
