Position:   Inclusion Senior Leader  - CSS III  
       
The Inclusion Program provides 1:1/shared staff support to campers with disabilities in all city programs. The Senior Inclusion Leader position oversees planning, staffing, and daily operations of the Inclusion program. The Inclusion Policy is designed to ensure compliance by the City with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and to facilitate opportunities for participants with disabilities to engage in recreational pursuits in the most integrated setting possible.
 
Department:  City of Davis Parks & Community Services
 
Hours: Must be available to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (schedules vary) from June through August, attend Monday and Tuesday evening staff meetings during the summer dates, and participate in mandatory trainings on June 4, 2025 with additional TBD trainings.    
 
Wages: Community Services Specialist III – $16.87 - $17.83 per hour based upon experience  
 
Status/Selection Process:  Temporary Part Time, No Benefits. Applicants are screened according to experience relevant to this position. The most qualified applicants are invited to attend individual or small group interviews.  
 
Duties:  
  • Supervises, schedules, motivates, evaluates and directs team of Inclusion leaders at various sites. 
  • Oversees administrative daily tasks and operations of the inclusion program. 
  • Visits various camp sites daily, provides accommodations to campers as needed 
  • Develops weekly staff schedules 
  • Assists with staff training presentations and volunteer education presentations 
  • Communicates with parents on a daily basis regarding participant behavior, injuries, and other relevant 
    matters.
  • Conducts intake interviews and collects write up information on participants. 
  • Coordinate material distribution including family correspondence and weekly email reminders. 
  • Inclusion Senior Leaders will utilize and train support techniques provided by the Program Coordinator 
  • Other duties include adapting activities, following inclusion or support plans, maintaining a safe 
    environment and promoting a participant's success in a program.  
  • Must attend and lead weekly staff meetings. 
  • Assist recreation leaders in keeping work environments clean and organized. 
  • Maintain positive communications with parents, program staff and other members of the public.  



Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Ability  and desire to advocate for individuals with disabilities to promote social inclusion within the program.
  • Must be 18 years or older OR have education equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Certified in CPR and Standard First Aid prior to the start of the summer camp program.
  • Ability to direct and delegate assigned tasks to subordinate staff as needed.
  • Ability to swim at a level considered water safe and be comfortable participating in pool activities.
  • Ability to demonstrate energy, enthusiasm, and creativity in the job position.
  • Ability to motivate and lead staff, volunteers and youth participants.
  • Having knowledge of recreation activities, child development, behavior management practices, staff supervision techniques, and community resources is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with program participants, parents and co-workers
  • Must be able to complete a list of other required online trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not limited to, Sports Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Protocols, Mandated Reporter, Sexual Discrimination and Harassment, COVID-19 Safety Protocols, etc.

Desired Qualifications:  
Applicants must be energetic, enthusiastic, patient and flexible.   Must have experience working with children/youth/teens with disabilities in recreation settings.  Inclusion Leaders will recognize the capability of all campers and possess an understanding that challenges and differences are encountered by all campers.  All applicants will have the ability to communicate effectively with program participants, parents and co-workers. 
 
Experience and Training: Must have a minimum of two years of experience working in youth programs and supervising others, or an equivalent setting. Advanced education in recreation administration or similar coursework may substitute for a portion of the required work experience.  
 
Physical/Sensory Requirements: Staff should be prepared to work outdoors, in various environmental conditions each week. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to 
successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with children and other staff; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, pollens and slip hazards when near water. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Must be able to complete additional trainings, including but not limited to: Concussion Training, Blood Borne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heat Illness, Covid Safety, Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
