Job Summary
The City of Dearborn Heights is looking for an ACCOUNTANT to perform professional accounting and financial analysis functions required to ensure the fiscal integrity of the City through the maintenance and review of fiscal accounts. May also be assigned to any of a variety of specialty areas such as grant administration, retirement, budget, and/ or audit process. Requires independent judgment on technical accounting problems; account classifications or accounting standards are determined by Department policy, City regulations or statutory requirements. Work is reviewed by the Comptroller upon completion for overall adherence to GAAP.
Compensation: Starting Salary $50,000 to $57,750
This is a FULL-TIME salary exempt position with Mon-Thurs workweek and flexible Fridays. The City offers a generous benefit package after 90 days; paid vacation, sick and holiday; short-term disability & life insurance; defined benefit pension plan
Duties & Responsibilities
Summarizes & balances records of various accounts; reconciles monthly bank statements; assists with year-end audit; prepares time sensitive and accurate periodic financial statements; coordinates all City grants; monitors debt service obligations; assists with annual budget prep; reviews & processes account payable invoices; posts to general ledger; functions as back-up to accounts payable & payroll. The City of Dearborn Heights is a public corporation. Employee in this position must demonstrate honesty and integrity.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
• Knowledge and experience with 2 to 3 years practical implementation of accounting principles required; experience in the public or non-profit sector preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to pass a civil service test and oral board exam (interview) with 70% and pre-employment physical, including drug screen, and background check.
Salary : $50,000 - $57,750
