What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at City of Dearborn?
This position is responsible for performing procurement and disposition of goods, services, and assets. Responsibilities may include soliciting bids; performing property disposition; and processing requisitions.
These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.
- Communicates with staff and departments to determine purchasing needs, develop specifications, prepare formal and informal bids, and perform related tasks.
- Performs property disposition, including: recommending methods of disposal for various properties; maintaining property records; maintaining disposition receipts; and performing related tasks.
- Communicates with vendors and clients to discuss and/or resolve procurement, quality, or related issues.
- Processes requisitions and creates purchase orders accordingly.
- Maintains purchasing cards, including: issuing cards; resolving card issues; and maintaining records to ensure proper use of purchasing cards.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
Associate's degree in Business and 1 year of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Copies of college transcripts must be submitted with application. Unofficial is acceptable.
