Summary of Position:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Coordinator plans, develops, promotes, coordinates, implements, and administers recreation programs for the health, well-being and pleasure of residents and visitors of all ages.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of a specific statement from the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Works cooperatively with the Recreation Manager to administer comprehensive camp programming and other recreation or athletic programming.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates Recreation programming and schedules City special events within set budget.
- Works with outside organizations on special event partnerships/sponsorship requests.
- Working with the other city staff develops linkages and partnerships among city and external agencies, and residents; identifies and develops plans to address neighborhood and city-wide parks, recreation facilities, trails and open space needs.
- Assists with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating part-time and seasonal personnel; assigns work as directed.
- Operates, assigns, collects and maintains a variety of recreational equipment.
- Assist in preparation and proposal of portions of the departmental business plan, budget, and performance measurements for the program area in which the position is assigned.
- Plans and coordinates programs with schools and universities to promote and provide physical and educational programs for children pre-school through college age.
- Assists with communications and promotional activities to encourage citizen support, participation, attendance, and interest in parks, recreation and open space programs.
- Supports Recreation Manager in collaborating with various public, private, non-profit and civic groups and individuals to promote departmental community-building activities.
- Serves as an instructor to assigned groups and athletic teams when appropriate.
- Provides overall staff support as needed with program registrations, answering telephones, maintaining correspondence with other agencies, and responding to public inquiries about the recreation facilities and programs.
- Performs custodial maintenance work as needed. Set up tables, sports equipment, chairs, field maintenance and bleachers for classes and programs.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree in recreation administration, physical education, public administration or closely related field is preferred, with at least 3 years of experience in public recreation or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- Must possess a valid Georgia’s Regular Non-Commercial Driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record. (Class “C-Commercial” to drive a 16 van driver’s license is a plus but not required).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish language preferred.
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA), Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work evenings, night shifts, split shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation, to include but not limited to, a physical examination with drug screening and an oral interview.
- Obtain First Aid and CPR Certification with (6) months of employment.
This is a Full-Time exempt position
