Position Summary
The Community Outreach and Public Communications Coordinator for the Carnegie-Stout Public Library will be an individual who is passionate about reaching individuals to promote library services, programs, and events. This position will also help develop and implement the library’s overall marketing plan and strategy to increase the community’s awareness of library services and programs. This position will work closely with the director and management team on marketing, public relations, outreach services, volunteer supervision, strategic planning, and more.
Job Duties
Job Duties:
- Plans, creates, and deploys library promotion material and products disseminated via social media, website, physical format, and local media
- Establishes and executes a public relations plan for the library that leverages various platforms to better inform the public of the library’s services
- Promotes public awareness of the library by creating connections with community groups and organizations
- Coordinates outreach at community events, prepares and presents public presentations, and maintains good public relations with the community, including networking
- Act as a representative for the library with various partner organizations such as the Friends of the Library, the Library Foundation, or others
- Oversees on-boarding and assigning duties to library volunteers, coordinating with other library staff, including volunteer training, application process, and volunteer recognition
- Works with library leadership team to assess library services for all ages, contribute to library strategic planning, and strategize ways to improve library services for the community.
- Works with library staff to communicate and market opportunities for public education and giving opportunities.
- Produce professional graphic design and publication layout work across various publication tools including newsletters, social media, website design, press releases, and other informational pieces for both print and electronic media.
- Develop and oversee a brand/style guide for brand awareness, ensuring communication and marketing materials are consistent.

- Critical Thinking, Analysis, Complex Problem Solving and Decision Marking – Analyzing problems, thinking about the pros and cons of different ways to solve a problem, and identifying/implementing solutions. Figuring out how a system/process should work, measuring how well it’s working and how to improve it to arrive at equitable outcomes. Use deductive and inductive reasoning to solve problems. Create new and original ideas.
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in resource allocation, human resources, leadership technique, supervision, training, performance evaluation, and coordination of people and resources, and planning. Changing what is done based on other's actions. Skills in confidentiality.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate from 2- or 4-year educational institution with emphasis on marketing, promotion, communications, or similar field.
- Demonstrated marketing and/or promotional experience
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing abilities
- Experience working with a diverse workforce and population
- Experience in library, nonprofit, or similar setting
- Experience overseeing volunteers or similar supervision experience
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, WordPress, Marketing email software
Supplemental information:
Supplemental Information: Position will require variable hours, including attending community events that happen evenings and weekends.
Working conditions: Duties require extensive computer use; standing, walking, crouching, squatting, climbing stairs, and lifting; bending and stooping; lifting and carrying boxes or other objects weighing up to 25-30 lbs. each; and pushing carts weighing up to 50 lbs. each. Work is performed primarily in a library setting.
