This is a senior level position that is responsible for training and performing journey-level work in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical and electronically controlled traffic signal control devices, substations, electrical meters, and the SCADA system. This position provides "hands-on" technical guidance and coordination of work assignments to crew members based on their skill level. This position is responsible for ensuring that all assigned work orders are completed according to East Point Power standards and procedures.Responsibilities include assisting with restoration and disruption of city essential electrical service in the event of Weather related or other emergencies.
This position reports directly to The System Control Supervisor.

Guidelines include the National Electrical Code, City codes, the Southern Building Code, Electric Cities safety regulations, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but require some interpretation in application.

The work consists of related duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, substations, wires and cables. The work is made difficult by extreme weather conditions and working with energized conductors.
Scope and Effect:
The purpose of this position is to assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment. Successful performance helps ensure the safe, efficient, and effective provision of electrical services.

Physical Demands:

Work Environment:
The work is performed outdoors, where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, high voltage, and occasional inclement weather. This work requires the use of protective devices such as gloves.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

This position reports directly to The System Control Supervisor.
- Performs maintenance and repair on the City distribution substations; keeps monthly log regarding usage.
- Responsible for training and supervising system control technician in the field.
- Performs installation, calibration, and repair on three-phase and single-phase electrical meters.
- Responsible for ensuring that all assigned work orders are completed according to East Point Power standards and procedures.
- Provides "hands-on" technical guidance and coordination of work assignments to crew members based on their skill level.
- Troubleshoots in the field and restores operation to traffic signal control devices that have undergone electrical, electronic equipment or electrical wire/cable failure due to vehicular accidents, vandalism, adverse weather, or construction crews.
- Interprets work using electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and underground street intersection prints.
- Tests traffic signal control equipment and related devices to identify defects in electric, electronic, and electro-mechanical equipment.
- Programs various types of computerized traffic signal controller
- Performs maintenance and repair of the SCADA system.
- Troubleshoots Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) communication system using hand-held field computer to communicate to electric and water meter radios.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
- Responds to customer complaints.
- Work on-call duty as required.
- Responds to customer emergency service calls related to power outages, accidents, fires, and weather conditions.
- Perform after hours’ responsibilities to include assisting with restoration and disruption of city essential electrical service in the event of weather related or other emergencies.
