Details
- Part Time ongoing (Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal Status), non-exempt
- $25/hour- depending on qualifications
- Reports to Police Support Sergeant assigned to the Support Division
- Located at Eden Prairie Police Department (8080 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie, MN)
- Approximately 15-20 hours per week including weekday days & evenings, weekends, holidays. Hours increase between May – September (2025). May vary based on business need.
This position will carry out the mission and vision of the Eden Prairie Police Department assisting licensed police officers in their duties in addition to the responsibilities and areas of impact below:
- Responds to medicals as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to ensure the safety of citizens and residents within the City of Eden Prairie.
- Responds to Animal Control and Protection service-related calls regarding law violations, pest control, wildlife, and injured animals; takes appropriate steps to ensure compliance with laws; contacts other agencies if necessary. Prepare and submit accurate and thorough reports and issue summons/citations as needed.
- Assists the Patrol Division in pro-active patrol duties by enforcing parking violations and other city ordinances; provides traffic direction and motorist assistance. Provide traffic control or perimeter security as assigned. Supports the police department by assisting officers with booking procedures.
- Assists citizens of the Eden Prairie Community with service-related duties and provides necessary information as requested which includes providing fingerprinting to the public; responding to lock outs; and assisting in the recovery and inventory of the lost, abandoned and/or confiscated property.
- Participate in Police sponsored activities (Schooner Days, Safety Camp, Night to Unite, etc.)
- Equip, train and mentor new Part-Time Cadets.
Requirements
- Highschool diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) required. Must be at least 18 years of age and have possession of or ability to obtain a valid, unrestricted MN Driver’s license prior to employment.
- 5 years of experience in Law Enforcement (Ex. Explorers, Reserves, CSO, etc.), 3 years minimum of EMT experience, experience with a computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) and possess solid understanding of organizational police procedures. History of personnel development, mentoring and management. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook) required.
- Incumbent spends a large portion of each day in a vehicle, frequently exiting and entering vehicle. Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, walk or run on uneven surfaces, drag up to 185 pounds for a distance of 50 feet. Occasional lifting, pushing or pulling of up to 100 pounds, frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of up to 50 pounds and regular moving of objects up to 20 pounds is required. While on patrol, continual attention to detail in monitoring surroundings is required.
- Incumbent is required to take appropriate safety precautions and wear protective gear. While on patrol or at scenes, incumbent may have exposure to injury, trauma, angry or violent individuals, animal bites, blood-borne and air-borne pathogens, traffic accidents, visual and emotional trauma, toxic chemicals, adverse road and weather conditions, and other hazardous conditions.
- Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification, psychological evaluation.
