A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
As a Director of Human Resources, you a develop, recommend and implement department goals and objectives. Your work typically involves administering changes to policies, procedures, ordinances, and advise directors and supervisors in employee relation matters. Performing program planning and administration, coordinating with other department heads and City Manager generally fill up your day. Your job is essential to the city, you oversee and/or serve as Civil Service Director. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include developing department work plan and assign work activities and projects or programs.
You investigate allegations of harassment, discrimination, policy violation or prohibited practices. You audit all records and personnel files and ensures record keeping complies with state and federal mandates. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem aiding and support to all divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in customer service, leadership, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree in personnel management, business administration or related field.
- Master's Degree in related field, Certification in Human Resources preferred
- Educational substitute: Minimum of five (5) years of municipal management experience, preferable in Human Resources, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years progressively more responsible supervisory experience in personnel management.
- Experience preferred: Seven (7) years progressively more responsible supervisory experience in personnel management.
- Requires Five (5) years of supervisor experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required
- Must have a current and valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety
