About this Position
The Engineering Inspector I is a construction inspector who inspects the facilities like streets, sidewalks, and sanitary sewer lines. This inspector job also includes reviewing installations, repairs, plans, workmanship, and materials to ensure they conform with established requirements. This inspections job involves working with contractors and the public.
The Inspector works Monday through Thursday from 7:30AM to 5:30PM, with a half day on Friday (7:30AM to 11:30AM), with occasional night or weekend work as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections on streets, storm sewers, driveways, sidewalks, and other construction sites
- Inspect the quality and grade of materials in construction (asphalt, concrete, etc.)
- Prepare reports and maintain records on inspection activity
- Inspect the installation of water and sanitary sewer lines and fire hydrants
- Check bedding and placement of pipes
- Observe the testing of water and sanitary sewer lines
- Obtain evidence and prepare notice concerning violations
- Recommend compliance procedures to contractors, craft workers, and owners
- Observe conditions and issue notices for corrections
- Coordinate utility service interruptions between contractors, citizens, businesses, and other City departments
- Use a City vehicle to go to work sites
Necessary Skills
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
