HOURS WORKED: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

JOB DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in maintaining the heating, air conditioning and plumbing systems in City and City related buildings.
Works under the supervision of the Lead Mechanical Plumber and Building Construction/Maintenance Superindentent.
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
May supervise support personnel, or other part-time or temporary staff as assigned.
Performs major plumbing repair work on heating and air conditioning systems.
Maintains, calibrates and repairs pneumatic control systems.
Performs plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs.
Performs basic plumbing repairs in performance of heating and air conditioning duties.
Installs or repairs any plumbing devices required for new installations or remodeling as permitted by New Mexico Journeyman license.
Installs or repairs any HVAC devices required for new installations or remodeling as permitted by New Mexico Mechanical license.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
May perform some basic maintenance work in the carpentry field. Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up-testing.
Extensive background checks required.
A pre-employment physical/baseline audiogram and or drug/alcohol test is required for this position.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and three (3) years of experience relating to plumbing, heating and air conditioning system maintenance and repair.
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
Must possess Journeyman's license or have the ability to obtain such within six months of employment.
Considerable knowledge of refrigerated and water air conditioning systems, operations and repairs.
Considerable knowledge of hot water and forced air heating systems and their controls.
Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.
Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Knowledge to include use of common hand and power tools for maintenance, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work; compressors, acetylene and oxygen welders, pneumatic calibration gauges, detection devices, motor vehicle, mobile radio, phone.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and may work with chemicals such as paint, lacquer, paint thinner, and roof foam.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud, but normally quiet to moderate.
