INSTRUMENTATION & CONTROL SPECIALIST
MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT
Status: Full- Time
Instrumentation & Control Specialist – Maintenance Department
Incumbent serves as Instrumentation & Control Specialist for the Engineering Department, responsible for managing plant and satellite stations instrumentation and controls, maintaining network hardware and software, providing support for other divisions, supervising and directing assigned personnel, and providing oversight for contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manages Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Creates and modifies graphics for Human Machine Interface (HMI).
- Creates and modifies Programmatic Logic Controller (PLC) programs. Maintains system computer and network hardware and software.
- Trends and analyzes control system data to evaluate process errors and/or efficiencies. Creates custom reports as needed.
- Provides technical assistance to Maintenance personnel to diagnose root cause of failures and equipment problems.
- Provides support for equipment and systems such as drive control, PLC devices and logic, network systems and communication, and low voltage equipment.
- Plans and schedules electrical projects, estimates time and materials needed, provides project supervision, and maintains related records.
- Plans and schedules heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) projects. Provides project supervision and maintains related records.
- Assists with evaluating operations, maintenance, and performance of water, wastewater treatment facilities, and/or network systems. Diagnoses operational problems and determines appropriate measure for resolving issues.
- Assists with design and review of plans for new and upgraded facilities. Assists with development of new techniques and/or improved processes.
- Works with all departments, consultants, and outside contractors on projects and maintenance activities, coordinating work activities and ensuring work quality conforms to standards and contract agreements.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in environmental, electrical, mechanical engineering, or related field with related professional work experience.
- Possession of required certifications/training, including industrial electronics, PLC programming, HMI programming, Arc Flash, and Class IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
Skills and Experience:
- Thorough knowledge of applicable industrial/electric requirements, standards, regulations, and procedures and practices with ability to research technical resources such as NEC, ISA, and Rockwell Tech Connect, provide specifications, and troubleshoot issues.
- Thorough knowledge of modification and practices of engineering with ability to assist with planning, analyzing, designing, and managing plant operations and projects.
- Thorough knowledge of technical writing procedures and practices and ability to read and understand detailed drawings/sketches/layouts/specifications/maps.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
- Ability to regularly work extended hours and serve on call 24/7 and occasionally work evenings/weekends, travel out of town for conferences, sometimes overnight, and respond to emergencies on 24-hr basis or from off-duty status.
