What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Worker position at City of Grants Pass?

This position will primarily focus on landscaping activities including:  mowing, edging, pruning, planting vegetation, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, applying chemicals, completing equipment inspections and performing minor building and facility repairs including electrical and structural, and grounds maintenance.  The ability to safely tow and maneuver trailers is desired.

This position is covered in the Teamster bargaining unit and incumbents must live within a 30 minute drive of their regularly assigned work site.  Incumbent will have 12 months from hire date to meet the residency requirement.


The benefits for this position include, medical, dental, vision and prescription for all qualified family members for premiums of $115 per month.  Time off benefits include vacation, holidays and sick leave.

A High School diploma or equivalent and two years of work experience in general park maintenance, landscape construction, turf care, agricultural production, or related field are required; or a demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description.

Licensing Requirements:
• Valid Oregon Driver's License – Class C
• Forklift Certificate within the probationary period
• State of Oregon Pesticide Applicators license within the probationary period

Incumbents may be required to obtain CPR, Competent Person, and/or Confined Space Entrant, Attendant and/or Supervisor Certification.

Incumbents must be in possession of or have the ability to obtain any certification or license required by City, State or Federal agencies to work in assigned position.
