What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at City of Green River?
This is a part-time, year-round position working 10-25 hours per week at the Green River Recreation Center's swimming pool.
Under general supervision, this position performs various duties relative to pool safety.
- This position reports to the Recreation Center Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator and/or the Aquatics Shift Leader, depending on the scheduled work shift.
- The Lifeguard position does not supervise other positions.
The following functions & duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address City needs and changing business practices.
Enforce pool rules and maintain discipline in the pool area.
Perform rescue and emergency activities as required.
Monitor all areas of the pool and wet room area.
Perform other related job duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Lifeguarding Techniques.
- Achieve and maintain physical conditioning required to effectively perform duties.
- Follow oral and written instruction
- Perform assigned tasks properly and efficiently.
- Communicate on a daily basis through an intercom or microphone system.
- Distinguish varying levels of cleanliness and take necessary measures to
- ensure a clean environment(by mopping, sweeping, hosing down, shoveling, cleaning windows, vacuuming, polishing tables, etc.).
Education & Experience:
- Any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide necessary public contact and lifeguarding skills.
- Must be 15 years of age or older
- Possession of valid CPR and First Aid Certificates.
- Possession of valid Lifeguard Training Certificates.
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, crouch and twist; work with hands above shoulder height with up to 40 lbs.; work with arms extended at should height with up to 20lbs.; lift or carry 50lbs. or less and push and/or pull heavy weights (over 75lb. weights) on a regular basis.
