- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

The award-winning Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is looking for passionate individuals to join our team as Camp Joy Assistant Counselors. This is an incredible opportunity to make a lasting impact in the lives of campers with disabilities while gaining valuable experience in leadership and recreation.
About the Role:As a Camp Joy Assistant Counselor, you will:
- Provide direct supervision for campers and volunteers, ensuring a safe and engaging camp experience.
- Assist the Head Counselor in managing group activities and keeping the group on schedule.
- Promote a fun and inclusive environment by leading age-appropriate activities.
- Participate in daily activities, including swimming with your group.
- Respond effectively in emergencies and adhere to Camp Joy safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be knowledgeable about each camper’s medical history and other pertinent information.
- Maintain discipline and ensure campers understand and follow rules.
- Support the Head Counselor in implementing activities and schedules.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
This position is Non-exempt under the FLSA guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
- At least 1 year of experience working with persons with disabilities.
- At least 1 year of summer camp experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- Behavior intervention training.
