- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

Join the award-winning Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department as a Camp Joy Head Counselor, where you'll provide direct leadership in a facility-based summer recreation program for campers with disabilities. This is your chance to make a positive impact while gaining valuable leadership and community-building experience in an inclusive and engaging environment.
As a Camp Joy Head Counselor, you will:
- Supervise campers, staff, and volunteers, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Lead specific group activities and create engaging activity plans to fill free cabin time.
- Stay informed about each camper’s medical history and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Ensure that campers adhere to rules and regulations while fostering a fun and inclusive atmosphere.
- Act as a role model by participating in daily activities, including being in the pool with your group.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and follow Camp Joy emergency procedures.
- Ensure campers follow the daily schedule for all group activities.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to a supportive team environment.
- Collaborate with the camp nurse to handle medications appropriately.
This position is Non-exempt under the FLSA guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of experience working with persons with disabilities.
- At least 1 year of summer camp experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- Behavior intervention training.
- Be part of a nationally recognized, four-time Gold Medal Award-winning Parks and Recreation Department.
- Gain hands-on leadership experience while making a meaningful impact in the community.
