Examples of Duties
- Respond to dispatched assignments and conduct traffic crash investigations involving only property damage;
- Determine contributing factors to vehicle crashes in accordance with North Carolina law;
- Complete and submit investigative reports to the traffic supervisor for review;
- Establish and maintain scene safety using traffic control devices at the scene of vehicle crashes;
- Photograph and document vehicle damage;
- Direct vehicles in need of towing as needed from crash scenes;
- Direct traffic at crash scenes and other events requiring traffic direction;
- Perform other duties and related work as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED; AND
- Six (6) months or more of related experience; AND
- Completion of Certification Training from the North Carolina Justice Academy or ability to complete training upon hire.
Knowledge of:
- the geography of the city of Greenville.
- investigative and interviewing techniques.
- principles and procedures of record-keeping.
- cellular and computer device software.
- prepare clear, concise, detailed, and accurate reports as needed.
- engage in effective oral communication.
- establish scene safety and direct traffic at crashes or other events.
- complete crash scene reporting by applying judgment, training, and interpretation of the law.
- operate assigned equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages.
- work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public.
- work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
- Must currently possess a valid driver's license issued by N.C. (Note: A valid driver's license is a current driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges).
- Eligible candidates must submit to an interview process, background checks, and drug screen.
