What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks and Recreation Big Splash Lifeguard position at City of Grove City?
The Big Splash Lifeguard shall be chosen solely on the basis of their qualifications, and as shown by the adequacy of their successful experience.
- Has proven ability in oral and written communications.
- Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public.
- Sufficient knowledge to carry out a full range of varied responsibilities and discharge the accountability required of the Big Splash Life Guard.
- Must be 16 years of age.
- Has the ability to follow direction, provide necessary services and enforced stated rules and regulations.
- Previous life guarding experience preferred.
- Successfully complete the lifeguard practical test.
- Knowledge of the Big Splash Employee Manual.
The Big Splash Lifeguard shall have the following powers and duties under the appropriate immediate supervisor:
- Demonstrates regular attendance.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the position's essential functions
- Ensures the safety and well-being of patrons using the facility.
- Follows established policies and procedures.
- Responds to emergencies and provides care.
- Provides accurate information to patrons.
- Completes applicable reports and forms.
- Completes custodial duties as assigned.
- Inspects the facility for cleanliness and cleans as necessary.
- Follows all rules, regulations and ethical conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City
- Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an aquatic environment including chemicals. flammables, hazardous gases, air contaminants; exposed to wet walking surfaces, weather extremes, ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; routinely required to stand, walk, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl on even and uneven surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 50 lbs or less.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium work.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification provided.
Current adult, child and infant CPR and first aid certifications preferred.
