Internship Overview
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Program Duration: June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025Rate of Pay:
Undergraduate Students: $16.24 per hourGraduate Students: $20.58 per hour
Internships are non-exempt positions. Summer interns will not work more than forty (40) hours in an administrative work week.
As a Budget Division Intern, you will:
- Conduct research, surveys, and data analysis to support budget planning and decision-making.
- Assist in reformatting and enhancing budget documents, including creating graphical illustrations such as flowcharts to present trends.
- Draft and update policies, procedure manuals, and website content for the Budget Division.
- Prepare and organize materials for the upcoming budget development cycle.
- Collaborate with team members to incorporate new informational elements into the budget document.
- Perform certain types of budget forecasting.
You’ll gain experience in:
- Understanding the fundamentals of local government budgeting and financial planning.
- Working with complex policy and communications documents, such as the annual budget.
- Applying research, data analysis, and design tools like Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva to enhance budget presentations.
- Exploring how government services impact the community through department-specific projects and assignments.
Department Final Project: Interns will work on a department-specific project designed to improve or enhance a City service. This project will be presented at a culminating ceremony attended by City leaders, highlighting the intern’s contributions and insights gained throughout the program.
RequirementsCurrent Student or Recent Graduate: Interns must be currently enrolled as a rising senior or a recent graduate (2024 or 2025) or a graduate student studying Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, English Studies, Creative Writing, Language Composition or a related field from an accredited college/university and be in good academic standing. Transcripts are required as a supplement to this application.
GPA: 3.0 or higher.

As division of the City Manager's Office, the Budget Division establishes and maintains a comprehensive budget system and provides financial management information to the City Manager and City Council so that sound financial decisions can be made. In addition, the Budget Office prepares the annual operating and capital budgets for submission by the City Manager to the City Council.
