Internship Overview
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.Program Duration: June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025
Rate of Pay:
Undergraduate students: $16.24 per hourInternships are non-exempt positions. Summer interns will not work more than forty (40) hours in an administrative work week.
As a Wastewater Operations Intern, you will:
- Consolidate and compare multiple pump station datasets from various initiatives.
- Assist in the development of a Condition Assessment template/SOP to support and enhance the Valve and Pump Station Preventative Maintenance Program.
- Work on creating a sustainable data collection and analysis process to assist staff in performing assessments of pump stations and valves.
- Review and support daily engineering tasks such as construction plan set reviews, field visits, work order updates in Lucity, GIS mapping updates, and more.
- Collaborate with field crews to understand operations and solve problems.
You will gain experience in:
- Understanding the lifecycle of a project—from field data collection to project planning, bidding, and implementation.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration, learning how mechanical, electrical, management, and regulatory compliance needs intersect in engineering projects.
- Developing a detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy in problem-solving and project execution.
- Using tools like GIS, Lucity, and database systems to analyze, correct, and track infrastructure data.
Department Final Project: Interns will work on a department-specific project designed to improve or enhance a City service. This project will be presented at a culminating ceremony attended by City leaders, highlighting the intern’s contributions and insights gained throughout the program.
Requirements
Current Student or Recent Graduate: Must be a rising junior, rising senior, or a recent graduate (2024 or 2025) majoring in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field from an accredited college/university. Transcripts are required as a supplement to this application.
GPA: 3.0 or higher.
