What are the responsibilities and job description for the Golf Professional position at City of High Point?
- Supervises and is actively engaged in the operation of the pro shop;
- Supervises and is actively engaged in the collection and receipt of fees and revenues;
- Takes reservations in person and by telephone, collects fees and keeps accurate records of the money and attendance primarily through a point-of-sale computer program;
- Answers questions about reservations, facility policies, procedures and programs;
- Works with the Golf Administrator and Head Golf Professional to establish and enforce rules of conduct for employees and rules and regulations for the public;
- Supervises control of all funds collected at the golf course and does supervisory work necessary in collecting, accounting, and recording these funds;
- Teaches golf lessons, plans and conducts golf clinics;
- Organizes and runs golf tournaments;
- Sells golf supplies and merchandise;
- Promotes the facility, conducts special events, gives golf instructions;
- Ensures the maintenance of golf carts and related equipment;
- Serves as a liaison with City officials, golfers, civic and social groups, and clubs on golf course matters;
- Prepares operating financial records and reports;
- Maintains orderly and attractive golf facility; ensures proper conduct of patrons and handles situations of controversy;
- Enforces policies and safety rules and regulations;
- Oversees equipment repairs and reports liabilities to supervisor;
- Other duties as assigned;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
- Must have a valid Class A Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) card or be actively enrolled as an Apprentice in the Professional Golf Management Program (PGM) of the Professional Golf Association of America.
- If actively enrolled as an Apprentice in the PGM Program, employee will be classified and compensated as an Assistant Golf Professional ($37,541.92 annual salary). Once Class A PGA status is obtained, employee will move to Golf Professional pay grade status.
- Must have thorough knowledge of the rules, etiquette, equipment, and game of golf; thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and policies used in municipal golf course operations;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other employees and the general public;
- Ability to prepare, maintain and monitor detailed technical and financial records and to supervise shop operations and to account for revenues.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
Physical Requirements
Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are necessary to converse with other employees and supervisor working together to accomplish task.
Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
- Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see the patrons across an open space and give instructions to them regarding the program activity.Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected.
- Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see program materials, telephone, merchandise, documents and other paperwork near at hand.Both eyes 20/22 corrected.
- Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances so as to use both hands in performing different tasks at the same time. Depth perception – 4
- Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span to cover surrounding area in order to observe patrons who are located in the area while attending to the activity at hand.
- Accommodation –Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work while glancing up to check entire work area. Must be able to adjust the lens of eye to glance quickly at equipment or people who are located at varying distances.

Environmental Conditions
Physical Surroundings
- The Golf Professional is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot or cold environment.
Hazards
- The Golf Professional will be exposed to chemicals and fertilizers associated with grounds work, trash, garbage, paint, paint thinner, and cleaning products. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
