The City of Hillsboro is accepting applications for a Library Program Intern to join their team this Summer 2025!
Under the supervision of staff, this position is responsible for assisting with the Library's internal program activities with a focus on youth and teens.

Compensation — Varies based on education level
Enrolled as a freshman or sophomore in a college or university: $19.00/hour
Enrolled as a junior or senior in a college or university: $20.55/hour
Enrolled in a graduate program: $24.04/hour
General Description of Duties
- Set up and take down activities, assist kids during art programs
- Assist Outreach coordinator with summer outreach volunteer.
- Engaged with volunteers & maintain communication with them
- Help patrons with simple library tasks, including catalog searching, locating materials, and making library cards.
- Assist the outreach team with office tasks, including sending emails, making phone calls, and keeping outreach
- materials organized.
- Engage with families and answer questions about library services
- Keep summer program materials stocked and ready-to-go for the Library On The Loose.

- Enjoys working both outdoors & indoors to assist the many programs we offer throughout the City and its facilities.
- Has interest in community engagement of all ages.
- Is self-motivated, but also a team player.
- Can be adaptive and flexible to a dynamic environment
- Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook or any email ability
Must be enrolled in an educational institution (secondary or post-secondary) or have graduated within the last 3 months; and interested or studying in Education, Social Work; Library Science, or closely related field; Level of education and experience needed will vary based on assignment requirements.
Preference may be given to students currently enrolled at Portland Community College in the Future Connect program.

Bilingual incentive pay available
Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, or any language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, at a proficiency level determined by a fluency test administered by the City, will receive a monthly premium of three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.
