What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary/Seasonal Parking Enforcement Aide position at City of Homer Alaska?
* Employees who fulfill entire 5-months of employment will receive a $1000 bonus
(5-month or 6-month positions)
Two employees starting April 1st, and two starting early to mid-May
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for the enforcement of parking and traffic ordinances and campground fee compliance on the Homer Spit. Issues citations for specific code violations. Collects parking and camping fees.
JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR ACTIVITIES
1. Responds to questions from the public regarding parking regulations.
2. Enforces parking and traffic violations and issues citations for violations.
3. Collects parking fees in the parking lots on the port & harbor facility.
4. Assists with parking lot delineation and traffic control as assigned.
5. Installs and maintains signage used to convey parking rules and information.
6. Responsible for parking fee collection and vehicle enforcement at the Homer Airport.
7. Responsible for camp fee collection and camp compliance enforcement at Mariner Park, Pier 1 Theatre, Fishing Hole, and Tent Camp West (beach) locations on the Homer Spit.
8. Conducts impoundment of vehicles and trailers under the direction and authorization of the harbormaster.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Two years of experience requiring public contact. Valid Driver License. High school diploma or GED required. Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public. Requires well developed written and verbal communication skills in maintaining effective relationships with the public and city staff. Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. The iron ranger fee collection boxes are heavy/awkward and must be transported to the harbormaster's office where the money is accounted for in a safe environment.
DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES
Takes daily direction from the Deputy Harbormaster. Requires ability to exercise independent judgment in the performance of all aspects in the enforcement city ordinances. Activities are a moderate source of potential liability to the City.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY
None.
EXTERNAL VISIBILITY/CONTACT
High frequency of contact with the general public. Infrequent contact with key city, key service and government personnel. Infrequent attendance at public meetings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Low frequency of exposure to hazardous working situations in dealing with angry and confrontational members of the public. Moderate frequency of exposure to adverse weather conditions in performance of duties. Required to work weekends and holidays, may be required to work overtime.
