• BenefitsThe PositionThe Respite Care Support position works with older adults who are experiencing dementia or other types of memory loss issues.This is an on-call status position, with scheduled hours up to 20 hours per week year round.Key Responsibilities
• The Respite Care Support staff work under the direction of the Client Services Coordinator for Memory Care.
• Assists with planning and provision of family caregiver respite service of three days per week, four-hour sessions.
• Activities include greeting incoming participants, direct to program area, assist with meal service, support various programs and events, coordinate and direct respite volunteers, communicate with families, and escort participants safely to their transportation.
• Aids Client Services Coordinator with feedback on classes, makes program recommendations, supports programming development.
• Engage participants in meaningful activities and social interactions, promoting their physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being based on individual's and group interests and abilitiesMinimum Qualifications : Knowledge of :
• Knowledge and understanding of adaptable task analysis in program development, tailored to accommodate a wide range of individual abilities and needs.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective volunteer recruitment and management techniques.
• Understanding of confidentiality as it relates to volunteers and participants.
• Ability to supervise, direct and support volunteers
• Understanding of program development, management and executionSkills and Abilities to :
• Provide person centered care.
• Calm and personable under pressure.
• Ability to multi-task and creatively problem solve.
• Proficient computer skills, including experience in Microsoft Works, Adobe, Excel, and Outlook.
• Proficient at collaboration with other staff and volunteers.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse customers, employees, contractors, other agencies, public officials, and the general public and display excellent interpersonal skills and awareness of controversial and / or sensitive issues.
• Ability to ensure participant safety and provide sense of inclusion and contentment.Education and Experience RequirementsA typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation with a High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience supporting people living with dementia.Licensing and Other Requirements : Positions in this classification require the ability to possess and maintain a valid driver's license and ability to meet the City's driving standards.This position works primarily during routine daytime hours, with the possibility of occasional weekend or evening hours.Supplemental InformationPhysical and Mental DemandsFrequent repetitive motions including, but are not limited to, hand, wrist and finger movements; daily walking, reaching, standing, talking, hearing and seeing.
