What are the responsibilities and job description for the Waste Water Treatment- Chief Plant Operator position at City of Lancaster, OH?
The City of Lancaster is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief Operator at our Waste Water Treatment Plant. This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment at the Water Pollution Control Plant, also for the safe and efficient operations of all plant equipment as well as supervises plant operators in the overall operations of the treatment plant.
JOB DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Supervise the safe and proper operation of pumps, blowers, filters and all other equipment used in the daily operation by operators;
Make daily rounds to ensure all duties or assignments, good housekeeping and routine special procedures;
Maintain records, logs, work orders and prepare reports as required;
Perform minor repairs to plant operational equipment or instructs operators to do so;
Assign and supervise the work of all operators engaged in equipment operation and maintenance;
Performs research and recommends improvements in existing plant procedures and methods;
Trains and inspects the work activities of plant operators;
Inspects work to determine conformance with prescribed procedures;
Counsels subordinates concerning operational problems;
Performs operator duties when required;
Evaluates all plant data, calculates plant operating parameters to determine condition of plant operations and makes necessary adjustments to the facility;
Schedule and conduct operator’s meetings, including responsibility for minutes to ensure consistent and accurate operational practices;
Prepare operational and laboratory data for Ohio EPA monthly operating reports.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and diagrams;
Ability to carry out special assignments and duties as required and any emergency situations;
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with associates and general public;
Ability to effectively utilize facility safety equipment.
Ability to use own judgment in performing work assignments;
Ability to prepare and maintain records and logs to submit reports;
Knowledge of safety practices used in the wastewater field;
Thorough knowledge of all wastewater treatment practices and the ability to utilize this knowledge to make necessary adjustments in the operating procedures;
Knowledge of the hydraulic, chemical and mechanical principles pertinent to the operation of a wastewater treatment facility;
Ability to make decisions on plant operating procedures to obtain best overall plant effluent and instructs plant operators as to how to obtain these results;
Ability to read and understand blueprints and diagrams.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Must possess a valid State of Ohio Drivers License.
Three years of progressive responsible experience in the water pollution control field;
Possession of an Ohio Class III operator’s license in wastewater works;
Any combination of training and experience which will indicate possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed above;
Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, drug test, criminal background investigation and driving record check.
