The Medina Civil Service Commission announces an open competitive examination to create an eligible list for the classification of: FINANCIAL SECRETARY with the MEDINA CITY SCHOOLS. NATURE OF WORK
Performs payroll functions for Medina City Schools. Duties include processing payroll accurately, efficiently and timely for all school employees which requires maintaining records, prioritizing work to meet strict deadlines and communicating effectively with staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required with 2-5 years of related work experience strongly preferred. Proficient in use of database software and spreadsheets along with accurate data entry skills, attentive to detail, strong math aptitude with ability to recognize errors. Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information.
NATURE OF EXAMINATION
Written examination will test knowledge of filing, editing, general office practices, reading comprehension, and accurate mathematical calculation. A passing score of 70% or above must be attained to be ranked on a provisional eligible list. Testing results and scores are subject to all public record laws.
APPLICANTS MAY BRING HAND CALCULATORS FOR USE ON THE WRITTEN EXAM.
Supplemental computer testing will be administered individually to get an idea of skill level and accuracy after passing written test. Three test subjects to be given are Data Entry (97ckpm w/95% accuracy), 10-Key (133ckpm w/95% accuracy) and Microsoft Excel (60% or better).
VETERANS PREFERENCE
Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has been honorably discharged within the past ten years and who passes the examination may receive additional credit provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented and verified prior to the written examination date.
PROBATION
All persons appointed to permanent positions are subject to a probationary period. The probationary period is an essential part of the examination process used for the effective adjustment of the employee and the elimination of any probationer whose performance fails to meet the required standards of work
