What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shady Oak Beach Lifeguard position at City of Minnetonka?
Shady Oak Beach is open June 7th– August 17th. We are seeking team-orientated, ambitious, energetic, and experienced individuals with strong leadership and customer service skills. - Paid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or Review if taken through the City of Minnetonka and meets shift requirements
- Knows all emergency procedures pertaining to the Shady Oak Beach emergency action plan (EAP)
- Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR, if necessary
- Provides excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by immediately addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants, and parents. Contact and ask for assistance from the facility supervisor or manager when necessary
- Maintains constant surveillance of the beach area; knows, understands, and consistently applies and enforces safety and beach/pool rules, policies and guidelines
- Communicates professionally, effectively, and concisely with both beach patrons and head lifeguard
- Maintains cleanliness and a hazard-free environment; performs various custodial duties such as sweeping, picking up trash, and sanitizing all facilities within the beach area
- Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Certification prior to season start or willing to renew prior to start of the season
- Minimum of 24 hours of weekly availability (equivalent to 3 shifts a week)
- Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Available to attend job-specific training scheduled throughout the season
- Ability to commit to employment for the majority of the summer season (mid-May through mid-August)
- Must be 16 years old at the time of hire
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Moderately physically demanding work, typically involving a combination of occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Occasionally lifts and/or move items weighing up to 30lbs or heavier items (300lbs) with assistance. When working outdoors, staff are exposed to all types of weather conditions.
