Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Instructor is responsible for being on-site with participants, program planning, and program implementation in the group exercise class they specialize in.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops class content appropriate to the course or program description level.
- Provides appropriate warm-up, exercise routine, and cool down if applicable.
- Continue to seek ways of introducing new and or effective ideas to maximize success rate in the class.
- Monitor participants and their ability to ensure proper use of equipment and technique.
- Operates equipment as required by the position.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned..
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Ability to interact with the public.
- Evaluate and understand the needs of members participating in their program.
- Anticipate and prevent accidents.
- Comply with program policies and procedures.
- Communicate with Recreation Supervisor for program and personal needs.
- Good judgement, understanding, reliability, and emotional stability.
- Knowledge of current cardiovascular training information and techniques; current resistance training techniques and information; and current physiological training techniques and information if applicable.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Recreation Instructor - Larson Recreation Center - works individually. The Recreation Supervisor makes sure the The Recreation Instructor - Larson Recreation Center - is following proper protocols and procedures in their programs and classes.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include Moses Lake Parks and Recreation, and Larson Recreation Center policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of working with the public and meeting their needs as far as it pertains to your specific programs and or group exercise class.
- The purpose of this position is to provide proper group facilitation and or instruction for members of the Larson Recreation Center.
CONTACTS
- Contacts are typically with participants in the programs or classes, members of the Larson Recreation Center, and the Recreation Supervisor.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and motivate persons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Operating standard office equipment, speakers, and computers
- Full range of physical abilities that pertain to your group exercise class, if applicable. Examples include dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, jumping, bending, and stretching.
- Lift dumbbells, barbells, and other weights if necessary for the class.
- Group Exercise classes will take place either in the gymnasium (hardwood flooring) or in one of the classrooms (tile flooring), depending on availability within the facility.
- May need to sit for long periods of time if the programs require it. Examples may include tutoring programs.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- Must possess and maintain a minimum of a child/adult CPR certification or be willing to attain certification upon hire.
- Previous experience teaching at an organization is highly preferred.
- Prefer specialty programming experience and appropriate certifications (Les Mills, Boot Camp, Zumba, Body Pump, Insanity, etc.).
- If you don’t have a specialty program, you must possess and maintain a current national fitness certification such as ACE, ACSM, ISSA, NASM, NSCA, NESTA, NFPT, NCCPT, NETA, CrossFit, or related certification.
- All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check process which includes reference checks and criminal history checks, or other.
