We’re looking for a highly motivated, reliable and skilled individual to join the Public Works Department for the position of Engineering Assistant I/II with the City of Mountain View. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, performing a variety of entry-level and paraprofessional engineering tasks related to land development. Under the direction of an experienced and technically skilled staff, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, supporting the team by reviewing and preparing plans and permits, working with the public and contractors, and assuring project work complies with applicable regulations. What You’ll Do
- Perform paraprofessional engineering work for land development activities.
- Participate in plan check, review and processing for private development projects affecting City streets and utilities.
- Investigate field problems affecting property owners and contractors.
- Prepare excavation permits and conditions, assist with customer service inquiries, and update the City’s GIS database and mapping system.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Engineering Assistant I:
- Training equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade supplemented by college-level courses in drafting or engineering.
- Possession of a minimum of a Class C Driver License in California at time of appointment.
- Two years of increasingly responsible and varied paraprofessional engineering experience, one of which is comparable to an Engineering Assistant I with the City of Mountain View.
- Equivalent to the completion of two years of college-level course work in engineering or a related field.
- Possession of a minimum of a Class C Driver License in California at time of appointment.
- You’re looking to begin a career or expand your knowledge of municipal civil engineering and are interesting in exposure to a wide range of municipal engineering functions and projects.
- You are flexible in your work style and can manage interruptions and changing priorities throughout your day.
- You have a “can do” attitude and the desire to work on a variety of engineering projects and expand your technical knowledge.
- You can communicate effectively with your co-workers and members of the community.

Salary : $84,225 - $113,040
