What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing Strategist position at City of North Port?
Provide major support to the Economic Development Department’s proactive marketing programs designed to assist local business expansion, attract new business to the city, and provide increased employment opportunities for city residents. Provide professional and technical work in the economic development field including community outreach, event-planning, program-planning, inbound/outbound marketing campaigns, multi-platform messaging strategies, and graphic and web design.
- Perform technical functions necessary to develop, update, and maintain the Economic Development division’s website and its content.
- Develop and circulate Community Investment Prospectus for use in Business Attraction, Expansion, and Marketing efforts.
- Assist in the coordination and visioning for programmatic and special event initiatives.
- Develop messaging and strategy for both paid and owned media efforts.
- Organize and implement inbound and outbound campaigns.
- Create digital and print collateral relevant to Business Attraction and Development and Business Retention and Expansion efforts including site directories and prospectus, educational pamphlets, advertisements, graphics, etc.
- Perform community outreach for relevant policy, incentives, resources, etc.
- Assists the Economic Development Division in working towards ADA Compliance.
- Manage the Economic Development Department’s social media page(s).
- Monitor content success utilizing analytic tools such as Google Analytics.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Marketing creativity in using data, research, and demographics/psychographics to support the Department’s campaigns, special projects, and programmatic initiatives.
- Computer skills should include Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams; general understanding of Customer Relationship Management software; and Adobe Creative Cloud programs including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop; and Canva.
- Ability to translate research, policy, and processes into clear, concise, actionable content targeted towards a relevant audience.
- Ability to monitor paid, earned, and owned media channels to update engagement data, city accolades, emerging demographics, and more.
- Knowledge/database of relevant talking-points, messaging, and brand image factors that can be deployed on a quick turnaround.
- Ability to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment with a consistent stream of incoming opportunities and projects.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with City officials, other employees, and the public.
- Ability to manage multiple projects or programs simultaneously.
- Ability to use discretion and good judgement in handling politically sensitive information and issues.
Education and Experience:
- A four (4) year degree in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or closely related field.
- Experience working for a marketing firm, business association, research firm, or other municipality in a like position is preferred.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire.
Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.

Please note, the hiring pay range for this position is the minimum up to a rate equal to or less than the midpoint of the salary range.
