The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill one (1) Building Services Manager (Exempt) position in the Facilities Services Division. The incumbent performs their duties under administrative direction from the Assistant Director of the Bureau of Maintenance and Internal Services within the Oakland Public Works Department. They use operational decision making in the direction and coordination of work in the Municipal Buildings Division; the incumbent will plan, organize, manage and direct the review and implementation of the City's major Facilities Services Division projects; and perform related work as assigned.

What you will typically be responsible for:
- Planning, organizing, directing and coordinating a variety of building services activities to meet City needs.
- Selecting, motivating and evaluating staff, and providing for their training and professional development.
- Understanding and complying with federal, state, and local policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to critical subjects such as health and safety, environmental protection, procurement, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), etc.
- Analyzing complex technical and administrative building services problems, evaluating alternative solutions and recommending or adopting effective courses of action.
- Developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards and internal controls.
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials; exercising sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
- Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties, including staff, residents, elected officials, external agencies, and other interested parties.

Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration or related field.
Experience
- Five (5) years of responsible supervisory or managerial experience in the building facilities maintenance, construction and repair work.
Desirable Qualifications
- Membership in one or more of the following industry professional organizations:
- American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)
- U.S. Green Building Council
- Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA)
- Industry related certifications or credentials in one or more of the following:
- Facility Management Professional (FMP)
- Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP)
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM)
This is an at-will position, exempt from the provisions of the City of Oakland Civil Service Rules, per Charter Section 902.

- Dental: Delta Dental full premium for employees and eligible dependents

- Sick leave: Employees accrue 12 days per year.
- Deferred Compensation: 457(b) pre-tax plan and an after-tax ROTH 401(k)plan
