What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Specialist position at City of Ocala, FL?
To handle all day to day aspects of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.
1. Responsible for reviewing and processing complex, detailed financial transaction documents such as cash receipt file imports, vouchers, processing of invoices and reviewing payments for accuracy, completeness and conformance with established criteria.
2. Researches various records and performs detailed audits of transactions in order to correct errors and reconcile accounts through the use of computer and/or manual record keeping.
3. Keeps records and receipts of payments received, file documents, invoices, and cash disbursements. Some files may be electronic in nature and properly attached to the initiating documents via the software program.
4. Reconcile cash reports to actual import received from departments. Posts data such as payments, charges, disbursements. Verifies amounts and account numbers on various documents such as travel card statements, petty cash statements, A/P invoices.
5. Maintains and update missing time keeping records and process payroll corrections.
6. Assist in the processing of cash and online check scanning. Open, sort and distribute mail.
7. Compiles, creates, and tabulates statistical data for various reports. Lifts and files various computer reports and records which may weigh up to 40 pounds.
8. Communicates with employees and the general public in person and by telephone.
9. Tests, trains and maintains a working knowledge of the general ledger software system.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
High school graduate or GED required - preferably supplemented with courses in accounting.
Must have a minimum of two years work experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
One-year experience with personal computers, word processing, and spreadsheets is required.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida operators driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
