Hiring range is from $37,850 - 50,225.00
This is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of refuse collection trucks including heavy manual labor involved in the collection and disposal of garbage, trash and yard waste. Reports to the Sanitation Supervisor.
Safely collects garbage, trash and yard waste from residences and small businesses on an assigned route. Assists in unloading the truck at disposal area as needed. Adverse weather conditions are involved and must be able to lift 50 pounds of trash approximately four feet high to empty barrel of garbage into the garbage truck. Must have manual dexterity to use rakes and pitch forks to load trash into the truck.
Safely drives and operates refuse truck performing F.D.O.T. inspection and ensuring vehicle is fueled and equipped with tools needed to complete their assigned route. Must have agility to climb in and out of the truck continuously throughout the day.
Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of assigned vehicle, and reports any problems to supervisor. Climbs into a small compartment behind packer blade to remove refuse. Accesses platform 5' above ground to complete cleaning of vehicle.
Responds and solves complaints assigned by dispatcher or supervisor. Makes special runs in attending to garbage, trash or yard waste complaints.
Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of equipment such as barrels and buggies that
are used on a daily basis.
Assists in the maintenance of the wash rack.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of six months experience in heavy manual labor or previous sanitation background required. Six months experience in driving and operating a refuse vehicle preferred.
Licenses/Certificates:
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class 'B' CDL with an acceptable driving record.Ability and willingness to work constantly with unpleasant waste materials and varied outdoor elements. Ability to be prompt and regular in attendance to meet customer service demands. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to work independently and responsibly in the absence of direct supervision.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions to complete tasks with a minimum of supervision. Ability to comprehend, record and complete route reports and work orders. Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with others in person and on two-way radio.
Knowledge of the principles involved in the operation of a refuse truck, safety procedures and traffic laws. Must be familiar with street locations within the city.
