Position Summary
The IT Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the city’s information technology infrastructure. This role ensures that all technology systems are reliable, secure, and support the operational needs of various city departments. The IT Coordinator will oversee the administration of hardware, software, networks, and telecommunication systems, as well as coordinate technical support services with the City’s 3rd party IT vendor. This position reports to the City Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and administer local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and other data communication systems.
- Ensure the availability, security, and integrity of all IT systems, including servers, databases, and cloud-based services.
- Provide technical support to city employees for hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
- Implement and manage cybersecurity protocols to protect sensitive municipal data.
- Ensure regular data backups and develop disaster recovery plans.
- Lead IT projects, including system upgrades, software implementations, and infrastructure environments.
- Collaborate with department heads to assess and fulfill their technological needs.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all IT equipment, including computers, servers, networking devices, and peripherals.
- Work with external vendors and contractors for procurement of IT equipment, software licenses, and maintenance services.
- Develop and enforce IT policies and procedures regarding usage, access control, and data security.
- Conduct employee training on new systems, cybersecurity best practices, and proper equipment use.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of network administration, system management, and cybersecurity.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- IT Systems and Infrastructure:
o In- depth understanding of network architecture (LAN, WAN, VPN) and server environments.
- Cybersecurity:
o Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and best practices for securing government networks.
- Database Management:
o Knowledge of database systems and data integration techniques.
- Telecommunications:
o Understanding of voice-over-IP (VoIP) systems and telecommunications equipment.
- Compliance and Regulation:
o Awareness of public sector IT standards, including accessibility (ADA compliance), public records law, and data retention policies.
Education and/or Experience:
- Associate’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field, Bachelor’s degree desired.
- 3 years of experience in IT coordination or IT management, preferably in the public sector.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Cybersecurity certification
- ITN (Information Technology Networking) Certification

- The employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information courteously, effectively, and promptly with the public and City staff. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift and move files and office supplies up to 25 pounds.
