Essential Duties

- Perform advanced maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general facilities upkeep.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex systems or equipment failures and implement effective solutions.
- Install or upgrade systems such as lighting, plumbing fixtures, mechanical systems, or structural components.
- Ensure compliance with building codes and safety standards during installations.
- Carpentry - repairs related to all interior surfaces.
- Ceilings: tile replacement including grid, drywall patching, tape and finishing various surfaces.
- Walls: repair cracks, holes, damage to all the various surfaces.
- Doors: repair all hardware, frames and thresholds.
- Windows: repair hardware, frames and glass.
- Cabinets: repair or replace hinges, knobs, rails, finishes and surfaces.
- Furniture: assemble and repair chairs, desk, shelving units, file cabinets, picture frames and workstations.
- Floors: replace and or repair the various types of flooring, vinyl tile, ceramic tile, concrete and wood decking.
- Stairs: repair or replace broken steps, rails and bracing.
- Trim: repairs or replace various types and materials of window, door, floor trims and moldings while matching the finish to the existing colors and stains.
- Painting: strip, sand, prime and paint various building's interior and exterior walls, doors, cabinets and furniture.
- Plumbing: repair or replace sinks, drains, faucets, toilets, water lines, sewer lines, hose bibs, water heaters, drinking fountains, sprinkler lines and heads, back flow preventer and install new items listed above. For new construction, install new water lines, sewer lines, toilets, sinks and water heaters in compliance to building codes and as specified in drawings.
- New Construction of buildings: Carpentry, framing, finishing, roofing, setting of doors and windows in accordance to building codes and as specified in drawings.
- Maintains and tracks time and ensures jobs are completed in a timely, organized fashion.
- Selects material and gives input on material and supply needs for jobs.
- Assists in the training of trades workers in the field of carpentry, plumbing, welding, paint processes, repairs and equipment operations.
- Performs general tasks in the construction, demolition, renovation, modification, installation and repair of buildings, equipment and facilities.
- Normally will be assigned projects specific to his/her trade but may be assigned projects not routine to his/her trade when the need arises.
- Must be available to work outside regular working hours when called upon to assist other on-call staff or when required by supervisor/management.
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues, such as leaks, power outages, or equipment malfunctions, to minimize disruptions.
- Complies with all City safety policies and programs in the performance of their work to include, but not limited to, vehicles, equipment, tools and facilities.
- Complies with all City and department employment policies and procedures.
- Performs other related work as required.
- Advanced understanding of multiple trades, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and masonry.
- Ability to work at heights well above ground level from/out of various types of equipment.
- Knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in the work assigned.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the work assigned.
- Ability to understand and transmit oral and written instructions.
- Skilled in the operation of the equipment used in the work assigned.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools applicable to the work assigned.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to work outdoors under variable weather conditions.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team while also functioning independently when required.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative and team focused working relationships with team members, leadership other departments and the general public.
- Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Three years (3) of experience as a carpenter.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Florida CDL Class B license, with airbrake endorsement, or can obtain one within six (6) months of employment preferred.
