To help accomplish this vision, we are seeking candidates for our Recreation Staff Assistant II position. Incumbents in this position perform a wide variety of customer service and program support activities with a high level of detail and enthusiasm within a bustling team environment. Responsibilities will include supporting the operation and programming of our Teen Center at Centennial Park and helping to provide a safe and engaging environment for the teens who enjoy this free after-school program.
This is a part-time position that is generally scheduled to work 16-18 hours per week. Variable hours, weekends, and evening hours will be required.
- Open/close the Centennial Park facility in support of user groups
- Ensure safety and well-being of all Teen Center participants by monitoring behavior and enforcing rules and guidelines
- Greet the public and responding to questions concerning schedules and programs
- Participate in set up and take down of special event chairs, tables, and other equipment as needed
- Oversee patron needs and safety, as well as cleanliness of facilities
- Utilize ActiveNet registration software to process class registrations and facility reservations
- Assist in recreational activities under the general direction of higher-level staff
- Oversee the facility and ensuring users conform to established City policies and procedures
- Excel, Outlook, Word, and Publisher
- Policies and procedures of the City as well as recreation services and programs
- Safe work practices and regulations
- Basic custodial/maintenance practices
- Proper English usage, grammar, and spelling
- Applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the position
- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public and City staff, in person and over the phone
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Perform detailed support work accurately, independently, and against deadlines
- Use initiative and independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
- Provide excellent customer service
- Work well with all ages and segments of the community, and relate to the public in a positive manner
- Compose correspondence, reports, and forms from brief instructions
- Lift up to 55 pounds (greater than 55 pounds with assistance) and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of related experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess a valid California Class C driver license and have a satisfactory driving record.
