Summary of Duties: Under regular supervision, the Public Works Maintenance Worker performs light to heavy manual labor to Are you interested in joining a diverse team of well-trained individuals who are experts in maintaining Plano’s water and sewer systems? This is an entry-level position that includes moderate physical labor outdoors in all types of weather. We will train the ideal candidate and help them in their quest for advancement throughout a hopefully long career here at the City of Plano.
Train with our seasoned staff members and enjoy the opportunity to become a TCEQ licensed water and/or wastewater operator, along with other certificate programs. Cross-train with other departments and learn how to repair water main breaks, service line leaks, and other repairs. Train to become a licensed CDL driver.
Hours for this position are 6:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.
Overtime opportunities are abundant for trained employees willing to work outside regular hours. After a six-month probationary period and proper training, employees hired for this position must participate in an on-call rotation.
The target hourly rate for this position is $18.58 - $22.44, depending on qualifications. Valid CDL holders may have the advantage of a better off than a non CDL holder.

Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the mid-level classification in the Public Works Maintenance Worker series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision. This classification is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker III in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Safety practices and procedures; proper and efficient use of hand and power tools; methods of tool and equipment maintenance; traffic control and barricade placement.
Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; operating light equipment; performing routine construction and repair work; completing basic mathematical calculations and measurements.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent .
Experience: One (1) year of previous maintenance or construction experience preferred.
Any work -related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and Certifications: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License.

Summary of Duties: Under minimal supervision, the Public Works Maintenance Worker performs light to heavy manual labor to repair and maintain City of Plano infrastructure including water lines, sewer lines, streets, sidewalks and alleys within the City’s easements and Rights of Way.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the advanced classification in the Public Works Maintenance Worker series. The incumbent plans detailed methods to attain desired objectives working within established policies. Methods require use of initiatives and resourcefulness in developing processes and procedures. Works under indirect supervision, conferring with supervisor on unusual matters.

Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing maintenance and repairs. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, dust, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Public Works employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to pull stand-by duty and/or work extended hours, holidays and weekends assisting with workloads of assigned division or assisting other departments.
