Experience
Maintenance Worker I:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- No experience required; 6-12 months’ experience preferred.
- Valid State of Texas Driver’s License with a good driving Record.
- Ability to obtain a Class “D” Water Operator or Wastewater Collections “I” License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within 6 months of employment.
Maintenance Worker II:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 2 Years experience in utility maintenance or a related field.
- A valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license with Combinations and Tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within 12 months is required.
- May be required to upgrade to a Class “A” CDL and is preferred.
- Class C Water Distribution or a Wastewater Collection II License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of mechanics and basic hand tools is required.
- Ability to work closely with others as part of a team responsible for providing public service to the City and its citizens.
- Ability to perform tedious and exacting work as well as multiple tasks simultaneously in dangerous, noisy, and distracting environments under time pressures. Tasks frequently subject this employee to safety risks related to operating in or around traffic zones and occasional emergencies.
- Ability to perform many physically demanding tasks, which involve a high degree of concern for personal safety and the safety of coworkers, citizens, and other individuals.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with coworkers and members of the general public using the English language verbally daily is essential.
- Ability to take and follow directions.
