Job Summary
The Community School Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating the implementation of the Community Schools strategy at Johnson Elementary School. This individual will coordinate services and programs that promote the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students and families within the school community. The coordinator acts as a bridge between the school, families, and community partners, ensuring that resources are accessible and targeted to meet the needs of students in pursuit of lowering rates of chronic absenteeism and increasing literacy proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Implement the Virginia Community School framework at Johnson Elementary School inclusive of a caseload of 10 students per year on a rolling basis
- Develop and maintain partnerships with school leadership, community organizations, businesses, service providers, and community members, including facilitating meetings with partners.
- Identify community needs and gaps in services, and work to develop partnerships with local service providers to bring additional resources into the school to support students and families
- Provide in-school support services to students and families at Johnson, including referrals and warm hand offs to appropriate community resources and partners
- Coordinate after-school programs, tutoring/workshops, summer and family engagement activities for students and families
- Work closely with school staff to identify and address student needs
- Monitor, evaluate, and report the data demonstrating the effectiveness of community school initiatives in accordance with program goals and objectives
- Organize and facilitate community meetings
- Organize and facilitate community trainings
- Organize and promote events such as family nights, community fairs, and workshops designed to increase family participation in school and community activities.
- Complete regular check-ins with children, including face-to-face meetings at school or home, text messages, e-mails, and video calls, via appropriate platforms and tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field, or commensurate experience
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Cultural competency and sensitivity with groups and individuals representing a variety of needs, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Proven experience in community engagement, family support, or advocacy role.
- Familiarity with local resources and support services in Charlottesville and surrounding areas.
- Experience in community engagement, education, or social services.
- Experience in program management and ability to organize and prioritize work and successfully facilitate multiple projects.
- Must be willing to work in person. Must have a flexible schedule and be available for frequent evening work and occasional weekends
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
- Comfort with data collection and reporting systems
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
