What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Park Caretaker position at City of Redondo Beach?

The listed tasks are essential for this position and may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performing any and all job duties from the highest skilled to the least skilled associated with grounds keeping and park maintenance including but not limited to cutting and loading fallen trees and branches
- Supervising personnel assigned to a specific area
- Providing information regarding hazards and equipment layouts
- Identifying and resolving problems
- Participating with superiors in developing schedules and daily job assignments
- Reporting orally and in writing to superiors regarding safety and health concerns encountered while performing required duties at an assigned location and initiating corrective action where appropriate
- Training personnel in safety and cleanliness standards at assigned locations
- Reading street signs, labels and operating instructions that are printed in English
- Operating motor vehicles and power?driven equipment in the performance of required duties.
- Delivering outstanding internal and external customer service while solving problems and proactively creating sustainable solutions to issues
- Conducting duties, responsibilities, tasks and assignments with a constructive, cooperative, positive, professional attitude and demeanor
- Supporting the City's mission, goals, policies and objectives

- This position requires equivalent to two years of full-time experience performing related duties, or any combination of training and experience totaling two years that provides the required knowledge and ability.
- Possession of valid Class "C" California Driver License is a condition of employment for those appointed to this class.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This position requires knowledge of materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures and/or practices necessary to perform required duties including but not limited to: Common fertilizers and pesticides used to maintain planted areas and the basic principles of propagating and maintaining trees, shrubs, flowers and grass; Applicable safety and health regulations, labor agreements, City rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
This position requires the ability to satisfactorily perform required duties including but not limited to heavy lifting, supervising and training personnel, the skillful use of tools, the operation of power-driven equipment used in park and landscape maintenance work and planting, transplanting, propagating and maintaining trees, shrubs, flowers and grass; work independently, exercising good judgement and initiative; read, speak, write and understand the English language; work weekends, holidays and overtime; adhere to applicable terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to safety and health regulations, labor agreements, City rules and regulations, policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
This position requires computer literacy with knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office; the ability to communicate using email programs; and an understanding of and adherence to City policies for information technology.

This position requires meeting the physical employment standards for the classification.
CLASSIFICATION:
The position is covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is a member of the Classified Service.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as: reference check, background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.
