The City of Rochester, Minnesota (pop. 115,000 ) Park and Recreation Department provides a variety of leisure time opportunities for people to enjoy and manages more than 3500 acres of park land including 4 golf courses, over 100 individual parks and 85 miles of paved trails.
Nature of Work
This is a temporary/seasonal/limited appointment position that provides assistance with the City's urban forestry and vegetation management programs by performing tree inspections; scouting for nuisance tree issues on both public and private property; identifying trees infected with Dutch Elm Disease (DED) and Emerald Ash Borer (EAB); conducting tree inventories; assisting with the weed and tall grass violation administration; and collecting site data for contracted forestry work. This position must also be able to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
Positions are available through October. Work schedules vary, but are limited to day-time hours, Monday through Friday.
Pay Rate:
$15.76- $18.39 per hour, depending on qualifications/experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.
- Assist with the City's urban forestry and vegetation management programs.
- Perform tree inspections.
- Conduct tree inventories.
- Scout for nuisance tree issues on both public and private property.
- Identify trees infected with Dutch Elm Disease (DED) and Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).
- Collect site data for contracted forestry work.
- Assist with the weed and tall grass violation administration.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the City Forester and other departmental staff.
- Help with data collection relating to the public tree inventory
- Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or the equivalent (GED)
- At least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
State of Minnesota Certified Tree Inspector certification
International Society of Arboriculture Arborist certification
Relevant coursework in Landscape Management, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Urban Forestry or closely related field
Experience with Geographic Information Systems including ArcMap
