Performs work processing utility billing for the Department, updating and maintaining account information, providing customer service to the public, and fleet management, providing general office support, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor.
Physical Requirements and Activity
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
Sensory Requirements
Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Sensory Utilization
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
Environmental Conditions
Work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

- Maintains and processes all aspects of utility billing accounts posting transactions to the general ledger and prepares special assessment rolls for delinquent accounts.
- Handles customer service calls, emails, and citizen visits concerning utility bills and general inquires.
- Handles new water meter assignments and monitors meter inventory and schedules appointments for meter installations and equipment repairs.
- Provides support with document scanning, electronic record storage, special projects, etc.
- Oversees the office supply inventory and assists other departments in meeting their office supply needs.
- Maintains city vehicle fleet records, including new vehicle registrations, vehicle renewals, forfeitures, transfers and disposals; provides fleet information for City’s annual insurance renewal.
- Provides backup with the receipting of monies and ensuring that all receipts are deposited in a timely, prompt, and accurate manner.
- Assist with daily and monthly reconciliations as needed.
- Assists with Accounts Receivable (AR) functions, including preparing invoices, receipting payments, tracking payments received, and collecting outstanding invoices.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
- Associates/Technical degree
- One to three years of experience in utility billing and customer service
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license
- Governmental accounting or other related experience.
- Experience with financial accounting software.
- Experience with Laserfiche.
