San José Mineta International Airport is currently recruiting to fill two (2) Engineer I/II positions. These positions are responsible for delivery of and providing technical support to capital and tenant improvement projects within the Planning and Development Division of the Airport Department. Under direction of an Associate Architect, the Engineer I/II performs a variety of professional assignments including planning, designing, and implementing projects at the Airport that are related to the operation of the aviation segment of the Airport's business. This position is an entry level engineering position and requires the eagerness to learn the airport related technical requirements.
Responsibilities include:
• Develop and review plans and specifications and review submittals for conformance to the established requirements of various airport airfield related and terminal related capital/tenant improvement projects.
• Prepare resources (materials, access, security documents, contract documents, etc.) and/or cost estimates.
• May supervise, schedule, and assign activities for Inspectors and/or Engineering Technicians, Student Interns, and Engineering Trainees.
• Perform the collection and analysis of field data and prepare recommendations.
• Interacts with internal and external stakeholders including consultants, contractors, City departments, and other agencies.
• Consults and collaborates with construction inspectors, architects and engineers. Attends field meetings regarding problems arising in the field during the construction of a public improvement project.
• Assist Section Managers in tracking and managing project costs using appropriate tools and resources.
• Gains and maintains current knowledge with FAA requirements and interacts with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
• Support Planning and Development division in implementing projects supporting aviation functions.
The final candidate’s qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in this classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay, which is included in the range below.
The Engineer I salary range is $100,616.88 - $127,305.36 annually.
The Engineer II salary range is $114,070.32 - $144,406.08 annually.

Education and Experience
Engineer I
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering designation or possession of an Engineering-In-Training (EIT) certificate. Professional engineering designation will be specified in the position announcement.
Engineer II
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering designation or possession of an Engineering-In-Training (EIT) certificate AND one (1) year of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience reviewing and preparing plans, estimates, and specifications.
Acceptable Substitution
• Certificate of successful completion of the Engineer-In-Training examination issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists may be substituted for the required education.
Required Licensing
• Possession of a valid State of California driver’s license may be required.
• Possession of a Certificate of Registration in the required engineering discipline is desirable.Employment Eligibility
