HUMAN RESOURCES/RISK MANGEMENT DEPARTMENTUnder general supervision, the purpose of the job is to conduct professional level work in the planning, organization and coordination of the City's risk management programs to include risk identification, evaluation and prevention. Employee works in accordance with departmental directives and is expected to exercise independence and initiative. May be required to act for the Human Resources/Risk Management Director during periods of absences or as directed. Performs related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists in development and implementation of City-wide risk, loss prevention and insurance policies and procedures.Manages intake of new property, liability of all types, and workers compensation claims; monitor open claims.Conducts investigations and accidents interviews; confers with employees involved in work related injury losses and/or auto accidents.Identifies and pursues recovery and subrogation for damaged City property and vehicles.Provides staff education and training in regards to loss prevention, occupational health issues, workers compensation claims, and risk analysis.Conduct new employee safety orientation; assists with cross-functional duties of Human Resources activity as needed.Analyzes claim trends; provides claim reports at least quarterly.Develop and maintain an information system for tracking and recording losses, claims, insurance premiums and related costs, and other applicable data.Ensure City compliance with Worker’s Compensation, OSHA, and other applicable laws and regulations.Review proposed programs, existing and planned facilities and operations, contracts and other sources of potential risk to avoid or minimize exposure/liability.Provide technical assistance to City Manager, and City staff in regards to risk associated issues.ADDITIONAL POSITION FUNCTIONS Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and regulations including workers compensation, OSHA, and other state statutes and federal laws related to personal injury, property damage, and risks.Knowledge of current risk management objectives and procedures including risk reduction practices, methods and techniques.Ability to effectively plan, prepare and administer an effective employee risk management training program.Ability to utilize personal computers, standard office equipment and standard software applications, e.g., word processors, database software, spreadsheet applications.Ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, employees, division and department heads, public/private sector contacts.?Ability to organize work prioritizes, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with minimum direction.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, or schedule form.Emphasis on Microsoft Office skill, use Word, Excel and Access.Must be able to multi-taskPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWhile performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is rarely exposed to disagreeable environmental factors.THE CITY OF SANFORD IS A DRUG FREE WORKPLACE
