The City of Santa Clarita is recruiting for a part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) position in the Recreation and Community Services division. Under the leadership of the Recreation and Community Services Supervisor and Coordinator, this position will assist the Contract Class program in providing quality recreational opportunities for the community. This position will work in an office environment and visit various classes within the City. This position is anticipated to work up to 19 hours a week and work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assists in organizing, promoting, and implementing contract classes for youth and adults, including art, specialty, health, fitness, sports, active classes, and more • Provides customer service to program participants, contract instructors, staff, and the general public, including answering and responding to phone calls, emails, public inquiries, and providing on-site assistance as needed • Performs a wide variety of office duties, including proofreading, scheduling meetings, and maintaining various supplies, forms, calendars, logs, reports, and files • Utilizes the City’s registration software to input class information, monitor registration and waitlists, process payments, and issue refunds • Creates and prepares marketing content for a variety of platforms, including social media content and flyers, as well as captures photos and videos of programs at various locations • Posts signage and restocks supplies at City facilities • Organizes, plans, and works on special events and with other program areas as requested • Operates personal and/or City vehicle to drive to various locations throughout the City • Organizes, prioritizes, and follows up on work assignments to meet required deadlines • Communicates effectively with City staff, contract instructors, participants, and members of the public • Effectively addresses issues and concerns as they arise • Attends meetings and training sessions as required • Performs first aid and responds to emergencies; reports incidents and accidents • Performs other duties as directed • High school diploma or GED equivalent • A valid Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions may be required • At least two years of experience in customer service, recreation, clerical support, social media/communications, or other relatable experience • Knowledge of recreation programming is highly desirable • General office experience performing clerical and/or receptionist duties is highly desirable • Knowledge of social media practices and tools is highly desirable • Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification • A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered • Strong customer service skills • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions and changing priorities • Ability to be a strong team member and work both independently and as part of a team • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively (both orally and in writing) • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel • Ability to prepare content for marketing, and use relevant equipment, software, and social media platforms • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships • Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines and be a creative problem solver • Strong work ethic, proactive, and a quick learner • Ability to follow and enforce City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others • Ability to drive a vehicle and travel to various City facilities as needed • Ability to work flexible hours and a varied schedule • Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, documents, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds may be required; position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, etc. An online completed City application form is required to apply for this position. Criminal offender information will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The City uses the E-Verify program to electronically confirm work authorization of newly hired employees. As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need. In compliance with California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment. PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
