Essential Functions
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Training & Professional Development division as well as assume a strategic role in the overall leadership for Fire and EMS training programs.
- Conduct short, medium, and long-range planning for the division and ensure responsible strategic planning for the training division, including establishing objectives and planning the curriculum.
- Provide oversight of the training records management system for Training and Professional Development division.
- Maintain accurate and reliable training records documenting mandated training according to departmental and legal standards.
- Ensure budget planning and administration for the Training and Professional Development division.
- Participate as an active member of the South Fulton Fire and Rescue Department command staff.
- Provide direct supervision of the training staff officers.
- Develop the technical skills and knowledge of the instructors and ensure an appropriate level instructor is assigned to teach programs or classes.
- Administer the department's training program, including full range of activities required to create, implement, maintain, oversee, update, keep records, establish teaching standards, develop methods, measure effectiveness, test others knowledge, evaluate progress, and set education/ learning standards.
- Assist in the evaluation of emergency operations and critiques to determine Department training requirements.
- Develop training plans and specialized emergency training curriculum for the department.
- Ensure that all training conforms to applicable national, regional, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
- Perform needs assessments, designing, and developing course content.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining effective evaluation, testing, and modification methods for Research and Development.
- Serve as an instructor.
- Conduct effective training courses and seminars for management, supervisory, and front-line Fire Department personnel.
- Conduct training presentations and programs for fire department personnel, other city employees, and the general public.
- Attend additional training and obtain certifications or levels of competency as directed by the Deputy Fire Chief of Operations.
- Coordinate training programs and classes.
- Read and review materials to determine the type of training.
- Research, implement, and develop necessary training programs, schedules, and coordinate various training schedules.
- Prepare materials for distribution.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Oversee and assist in resolving a variety of situations characterized by conflict or danger.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including coworkers, supervisors, City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public.
- Work irregular hours including weekends, holidays and extended hours in emergency, disaster or other situations influenced by workload or staffing difficulties.
- Direct and apply fire suppression tactics and other related emergency response activities and procedures.
- Work under stress and use good judgement in emergency situations.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of participants in training programs in conjunction with instructors.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Pass a medical examination and all other examinations and tests required for employment.
- 2 years as a Fire Battalion Chief or higher and a minimum of 10 years of progressive firefighting experience.
- Minimum: Bachelor's Degree, Masters Highly Preferred

- State of Georgia Firefighter 1 or obtain in 6-months of hire
- Wildland Urban Interface Fire Ops, National Fire Academy Command and Control for Structural Chief Officers
- Fire Officer 11, FO Ill & IV Preferred
- ICS NIMS 300 and 400
- NPQ Fire Instructor I & II
- NFPA 1403 Live Fire Instructor
- Minimum: Emergency Medical Technician B, EMTA or Paramedic Preferred
- Incident Safety Officer
- Inspector 1
