What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Maintenance Worker (Seasonal) position at City of South St. Paul?
The Maintenance Worker Aide position performs assigned duties to assist full-time staff in maintaining the airport buildings, grounds, and equipment as assigned.The job duties and/or essential functions of the position include performance of a variety of semi-skilled building and grounds maintenance, repair, and custodial duties that will require the ability to operate a variety of small hand and power tools, grounds maintenance equipment, and other airport equipment, but are not limited to the following:
Age 18 or older; Valid driver’s license with good driving record; Math aptitude; Working knowledge or ability to learn airport procedures and aviation radio communication operations and procedures using a two-way radio; Previous experience working with building/grounds maintenance equipment desired.Knowledge of occupational hazard and safety precautions. General knowledge of equipment, materials, construction methods and maintenance activities. The ability to perform the following work activities with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Perform grounds maintenance including, mowing of airport land, care of flower beds and shrubs, trimming of trees and bushes, and various landscaping duties.
- Apply pesticides and herbicides to various airport areas in accordance with established health and safety regulations under the direction of fulltime staff.
- Perform various custodial functions to assure the airport building are clean and welcoming to patrons.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies; maintain shop area and equipment in clean and safe condition; and assure the security of tools and equipment.
- Removal of trash or debris from public trash bins.
- Safe operation of a variety of airport equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, hand tools.
- Driving airport vehicles.
- Assist airport staff with required repairs and preventive maintenance on hangars, buildings, and other airport facilities.
- Operate two-way radio to communicate with pilots.
- Fuel various types of airport vehicles and equipment.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as are apparent or assigned.

- Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to be flexible with work hours, work independently, and complete job tasks as assigned.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, hear within normal hearing range, and possess visual acuity correctable to read common documents.
- Maintain regular attendance.
