The Springfield-Greene County Park Board seeks a strong operational leader with excellent communication, leadership and planning skills and recreational management experience for its next Director of Parks and Recreation.
The ideal candidate will be a confident, innovative leader with knowledge and experience directing parks and recreation programs and activities and leading a team of dedicated professionals. The Director of Parks and Recreation serves as principal advisor to the Park Board, City Manager, and other City and county officials. The Director is responsible for developing long-range strategic and master plans for department policies and programs, outlining program objectives, and working with staff to implement plans. The Director meets with various individuals, civic organizations, community groups, garden clubs, outside agencies, City departments, and committees to discuss park projects, deliver presentations, and promote interest in park development and municipal beautification.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board coordinates programs, facilities, and events at 105 park sites across 3,200 acres. The park sites range from neighborhood playgrounds to multi-use recreational facilities to natural resource areas. The system also includes four golf courses, three family centers, a zoo, a farm park, botanical gardens, several sports and athletic complexes, two indoor aquatics centers, six outdoor swimming pools, multiple School-Park sites and more than 100 miles of recreational trails — including 70 miles of Greenways.
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board received full accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Park Management, Public Administration, Leisure Services, or a related field.
- Six years of progressive supervisory and administrative professional experience in municipal and/or county recreation and parks management.
- Certification as a Parks & Recreations Professional preferred
- Must establish residency within the City limits of Springfield within six months of employment and maintain residency throughout appointment.
